MaterialDescription
Steel grade 2
Zinc
plated low carbon steel. Best
for general hardware use where high strength is not required.
Steel grade 5
Made from medium carbon steel, tempered and
zinc plated. Best for automotive use and other areas where higher strength is
desired.
Steel grade 8
Made from medium carbon alloy steel, tempered,
and zinc plated. Best suited for applications where high strength and hardness
is required.
Stainless steel 18-8
Stainless steel 18-8 is an alloy of steel with
high corrosion resistance. Stainless has become the material of choice for
exterior and most marine applications.
Silicon Bronze
Bronze is an alloy of copper with greater
strength and corrosion resistance than brass. Most commonly used in wood boat
building and restoration.
Hot dipped galvanized
Hot dipped galvanized fasteners are much more
corrosion resistant than zinc plated fasteners. Due to the thickness of the
galvanized coating, galvanized bolts will only work with galvanized nuts. For
exterior and coastal area use. (ASTM A153)
Grade 5 chrome
A grade 5 fastener with a bright mirror-like
finish providing sharp looks for a variety of applications.

Turnbuckles
Turnbuckles are used to tension guy wires. They are available in eye & eye, or
eye & jaw formats, in 3/8" x 6", 1/2" x 9" 1/2" x 12", and 5/8" x 12" sizes.
Ceramic Strain Insulators
Insulators are used to isolate guy wires into nonresonant lengths. The 500D can
be used for 3/16"EHS, when terminated with cable clamps, and measures 2-1/4"
long by 1-1/2" in diameter. The 500D is com monly
referred to as an "egg insulator". The 502 is required for 1/4"EHS, or when
using guy grips with either wire size, and measures 3-1/2" long, 2-1/2" in
diameter. The 504 is for use with 5/16"EHS guywire, and measure 4-1/2" long,
2-7/8" in diameter.

Exothermic welding
"An
exothermic connection is actually a molecular bond formed between 2
metals such as copper and steel. Copper oxide and aluminum are combined
and ignited. The result is an exothermic reaction that products molten
copper and aluminum oxide slag. The molten copper melts the objects
being connected together forming the molecular bond. This bond will not
loosen overtime or deteriorate with age. The connection's current
carrying capability is to that which it is being connected. In other
words, there is no increase in resistance in an exothermically welded
connection as there is in most pressure connections."

TOWER CLIMBING AND FALL PROTECTION

Fall prevention systems are an essential
component in tower planning, construction and use. It is equally essential to
upgrade the safety systems of older towers to current standards. Workers who
construct and maintain communications towers and other high structures are
always at risk of a fall, particularly when working in wind or inclement
weather. Enforcement of OSHA/CLC government regulations for worker safety at
heights is becoming more stringent. OSHA mandates that some form of fall
protection be supplied to employees who work at heights of 6 ft or more.
